The Swedish Support to North Macedonia’s European Union Accession (SMEF)
The Swedish Support to North Macedonia’s EU Accession (SMEF) project supports North Macedonia in aligning its environmental legislation with EU requirements under Chapter 27. It focuses on building capacity within MoEPP and other relevant institutions, promoting biodiversity protection and sustainable management of High Nature Value farmland, enhancing the valorisation of the Monospitovsko wetland. A sub-component is intraregional cooperation to address shared environmental challenges. The project delivers training programmes, technical assistance, policy guidance, and practical demonstration activities to strengthen environmental governance and facilitate EU integration. Intraregional activities have an approximate budget of 100 000 EUR.
