The Green Agenda for the Western Balkans Observatory (GAWB Observatory) was established by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) to track progress and ensure transparency in the implementation of the GAWB Action Plan 2021–2030. In addition to its monitoring role, the GAWB Observatory serves as a platform for enhancing mutual awareness and exchange of information among stakeholders engaged in the Green Agenda process.
The objective is to drive the green transformation of the Western Balkans by effectively facilitating the implementation of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans (GAWB) Action Plan 2021-2030 at the regional level. By endorsing the GAWB in 2020, the region committed to aligning with the European Green Deal's ambition of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
The GAWB Observatory constitutes an integral part of the RCC’s mandate to monitor and coordinate the diverse contributions of stakeholders involved in the implementation of the GAWB. By facilitating comprehensive oversight and collaboration, the GAWB Observatory plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective and coherent execution of the GAWB Action Plan. It serves as an essential information hub, providing local authorities, foreign governments, civil society organizations, and the public with timely updates on the progress of the Green Agenda. The GAWB Observatory offers access to databases that map the landscape of actors, initiatives, and projects, thereby fostering transparency, informed decision-making, and enhanced stakeholder engagement across the region.
