Integrated Waste Management & Marine Litter Prevention in the Western Balkans
The Marine Litter Prevention Programme aims to reduce plastic waste in the Adriatic Sea by enhancing regional cooperation and implementing Circular Economy practices in the Western Balkans Six. The project has successfully built a platform for collaboration, improved data collection on plastic waste, and strengthened domestic-level capacities through training and legislation on plastic reduction. It also raised public awareness through campaigns and initiatives like the Low Plastic Zone. By engaging both the public and private sectors, the programme promotes effective waste management strategies and helps the region align with EU environmental goals.
