Dinaric Karst Peatlands for Climate Resilience
The project promotes sustainable and climate-positive investments in the Dinaric karst peatlands by fostering collaboration among local communities, governments, businesses, and researchers. It develops long-term conservation strategies as alternatives to unsustainable practices like peat excavation, agriculture, and hydropower. The project introduces business opportunities through carbon crediting and offsetting schemes, pilots financial models for peatland restoration, and raises government awareness about peatlands' role in climate change mitigation. It also advocates for transforming the hydropower sector to reduce peatland degradation, particularly in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
