ReRURAL – Renew Rural Areas
The ReRURAL project raises awareness of energy poverty and energy transition in rural areas through local and regional meetings. It supports the establishment of energy communities (ECs) in four of the WB6 promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy integration to combat energy poverty. Workshops and information events build local capacities, with a focus on engaging youth to encourage staying in rural areas. Two summer schools are organised to educate on energy poverty, renewable energy, and ECs, complemented by field trips showcasing best practices. The project also develops a pre-feasibility tool for energy efficiency planning and domestic-level reports to guide rural communities.
This project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) through the European Climate Initiative (EUKI) project ideas competition, which is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
