European Green Deal
The European Green Deal1
Launched in 2019, the European Union’s key development strategy aims to achieve the green transition and reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, making Europe the world's first climate-neutral continent. At the same time, it represents the EU’s commitment to the implementation of the Paris Agreement2 with the objective to limit global warming to a maximum of +1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
The European Green Deal supports the EU's transformation into a fair and prosperous society with a modern, competitive economy. It emphasises the integration of climate and environmental objectives across all EU policies, from energy, industry, and transport to agriculture, construction, and the financial sector.
