Serbia: Law on Official Controls

Serbia's Law on Official Controls establishes an aligned system of official controls and other official activities across the agri-food chain, covering food and feed safety, animal health, plant health, GMOs, animal welfare, and organic production, transposing EU Regulation 2017/625. It sets out competent authorities, authorization of control bodies and laboratories, border/boundary control post procedures, official certification, financing, and a multi-annual control plan. The law applies in phases: generally from 1 January 2026, most areas from 1 March 2026, and plant health, plant protection products, and GMO provisions from 1 January 2027.
